AHMA/GDSN/VICS Hardlines & Electronics Attribute Workgroup January Update

The Hardlines & Electronics Attribute workgroup has made steady progress since its initial conference call was held on December 7, 2006.

The advisory board was formed and held three organizational meetings in January. Members of the board include, Mr. John Gemignani, A.O. Smith Water Products; Ms. Donna Liotta and Mr. John Hasemann, AHMA; Ms. Donna Ahron and Ms. Maureen Wissell, Best Buy; Mr. Walter Cole, Boise Building Solutions Distribution; Mr. John Flippen, Georgia-Pacific Corporation; Mr. Peter Alvarez GS1-GDSN; Ms. Lina Della Mora and Mr. Mike Sadiwnyk, GS1 Canada; Mr. Rich Richardson GS1 US; Ms. Debie Cody-Holland, Hines Horticulture, Inc.; Mr. Steven Joy, Johnson Level & Tool Mfg. Co., Inc.; Ms. Michelle Adams, Lowe's Companies, Inc.; Mr. Gary Lenn, Masco Corporation; Ms. Christy Dutton, Mr. Rick Gill and Mr. Mark Healy, The Home Depot; Mr. Joe Andraski, Mr. Matt Deeter and Ms. Laura Golding, VICS and Mr. James Morrison, Whirlpool Corporation.

Several decisions were made on how to move forward with the workgroup. It was decided that the Major Domestic Appliance product category, as defined by the Global Product Classification (GPC) system, will be used to pilot the process of developing marketing and other extended product attributes. A category work team is currently being formed to evaluate and establish common attributes, and should have their first meeting in February. Retailers and suppliers — as well as data pool and solution providers — plan to participate in this category-specific work team. The following companies have committed resources to this work team: 1SYNC, Agentrics, Big Hammer, GE, GXS, LG, Samsung and Whirlpool. Based upon the success of this team, other category-specific work teams will be formed to develop common category-specific attributes.

Finally, a face to face meeting of the Hardlines & Electronics Attribute workgroup will be held during the AHMA Hardlines Technology Forum® scheduled in April.

Thank you for your continued support for this important initiative for the Hardlines Industry.  These meetings are open to all retailers, distributors, manufacturers/suppliers, GDSN-certified data pools, and solutions providers.
