The Hard Fax Composite of home
improvement industry stocks fell 14 points in the latest week of trading to end
at 1268, down from 1282 the prior week, and is currently up 15 percent on the
year. The Dow Jones Industrial Average
gained five points for the week, ending at 12777, or plus five percent on the
year.
Last week
the market basket of 28 industry-related stocks had seven gainers versus 21
decliners.
On Monday
morning of this week stocks opened lower on news of weak retail sales from the
Census Bureau and concerns about a weakening world economy, with a slowing
growth rate in China joining shaky European bailouts as major items of concern
for investors.
