Home Improvement Retail Sales Down 1.6% in June
[Monday, July 16, 2012] Advance estimates for retail sales of home improvement products (NAICS 444 – Building Material & Garden Equipment & Supplies Dealers) fell 1.6 percent in June to $23.652 billion from $24.048 billion in May, according to a Census Bureau report released today. Sales were up 0.6 percent from May 2011 levels.
Estimates for all retail sales in June, adjusted for seasonal variation and holiday and trading-day differences, but not for price changes, were $401.5 billion, a decrease of 0.5 percent (±0.5%) from the previous month, but 3.8 percent (±0.7%) above June 2011. Total sales for the April through June 2012 period were up 4.7 percent (±0.5%) from the same period a year ago.
